Chapter Thirteen

Right after lunch we got a convoy together and left the hospital. I had finally been introduced to the man and woman I had not yet met. The young woman or actually more of just a girl was named Mia. She seemed pleasant enough and was rather shy around the others. The only guy was named Max which name did not fit him at all. He was nineteen and had not worked at the hospital but had just came for the vaccine and stayed like I did though he had arrived the day before I showed up. Before leaving we had looked in an actual phone book’s yellow pages to find all the RV dealers in the area. We were headed to the closest one first of course.

The RV dealer we went to was quite a big one and had plenty of vehicles on hand so we would have no need to look at any other place. Most everyone had their car or truck except for Max and Mia and Max volunteered to drive the ambulance while Mia rode with Bev in her car. I had everyone drive to rear area of the RV dealership and park their cars. The dealership was naturally locked up but I was able to kick in one of the back doors without causing too much damage. I brought up a subject to the group that I had been thinking about some.

“Keep in mind that we should try to cause as little damage as possible where ever we go. Everything you see now will not be replaced for a long time or maybe ever. All buildings, all vehicles, and everything else, what we have now is all there will ever be. Take only the items you might need but don’t make a mess or destroy anything. Every manufactured product is now an endangered species. We want to waste absolutely nothing. When we get new vehicles leave the keys in the switch of your personal cars. That way maybe at some point someone else might be able to use them at some point in the future. But make sure you retain your home keys so you can get your personal stuff.”

I think everyone was starting to realize the truth in what I said. They would gradually come around and lose their old way of thinking. We had always been a very wasteful society but that would have to stop now. Just like I told them everything was now precious and could not be wasted.

Inside we found the rack with all the keys right away. We all went back outside and Max, who had the keys, started unlocking all the RVs and then leaving the keys in the ignition of each motor home. The ladies were looking through the unlocked ones and trying to pick one they liked and also just looking at all the different features.

While they were all busy making their choices I checked out a couple of things at the place. I found the propane filling area and it was not even locked.
